Julie Karagin

Character Analysis

Julie is a pretty minor character, and so it's probably for the best that she isn't much more than a grotesque caricature. Let's see how many things she parodies:

  • Grown women still pretending to be teenagers in order to get guy;
  • People into the goth and emo culture of the time (oh yes, don't think we're the first to experience the deathly pallor craze);
  • Russian aristocrats so totally removed from their country that they can't even speak or write Russian correctly; and
  • Ugly women who think they're hot. That list is a bit on the misogynistic side, no?
