War and Peace Volume 4, Part 4, Chapter 11 Summary

  • Giving Kutuzov the medal for the Order of St. George is really just a face-saving formality. Kutuzov is out of favor, and there’s no two ways about it.
  • He still tries to put in his opinion: who cares about saving Europe from Napoleon when Russia is already safe?
  • But he’s lost all power and authority. He is replaced and quickly forgotten and ignored.
  • Soon after, he dies.
