- In a bleak, sterile room, Vader is laid out on an operating table. He's badly burned. Droids are affixing metal limbs to him, somewhat brutally.
- In contrast, in a different room somewhere else, we see Padmé crying and then hear an infant crying. She names him Luke.
- Padmé cries again, and it's a girl: Leia.
- Vader's surgery is nearing its end as they place the iconic Darth Vader helmet on his burned head. We hear the mechanical breathing.
- Padmé dies as she weakly tells Obi-Wan that she knows there's still good in Anakin.
