  • Humbert returns to the Haze home in Ramsdale. A nymphet is playing on the lawn. His filthy clothes scare the girl so he quickly retreats.
  • Humbert feigns the need for some dental work so he can get an appointment with Ivor Quilty. During his dental exam, he questions Ivor about his nephew's whereabouts. The dentist admits he has not seen him in a long time, but that he must be at his ancestral home on Grimm Road.
  • Humbert hastily departs, insulting the dentist and imagining shooting the gun.
