- Humbert leaves a sleeping Rita and sets off to find Lolita. Locating her town, he is prepared for a duel to the death with her husband, whom he assumes is the man who stole her from him.
- Preparing to see her, he cleans and dresses himself. It takes a little tracking down to find her house as she has moved. He finally locates her house, on "Hunter Road" (2.28.5). It's a grim little shanty. He double-checks that he has his gun.
