Lolita Book 2, Chapter 15 Summary

  • Humbert readies the car for the trip and tells Lolita's school that he has been hired as a chief consultant to a Hollywood movie about existentialism.
  • Lolita has traced the exact route they will take and Humbert is touched that she is taking such care in the trip. He appreciates her curiosity.
  • As they are leaving town a familiar looking woman (Edusa Gold) pulls up along side their car and expresses disappointment that Lolita has pulled out of the school play. When asked, Lolita says that the play was written by "Some old woman, Clare Something" (2.15.6).
  • Humbert says he thinks it's odd that she was so passionate about the play only to lose interest so abruptly.
