The Hoovervillagers

Character Analysis

This bunch of castaways are destitute but still know how to take care of themselves and never turn away a hungry mouth if they can feed it. This is a hospitable, and equitable, community. There is music, fire, chit-chat around a circle, and group plans to go find work. Like one person said about the boys, "Brother, why don't we feed these boys?" (8.81) They think of each other like a family.
