How we cite our quotes: (Chapter. Paragraph)
Quote #4
[Jacob to Bella:] "So, you see," Jacob continued, "the cold ones are traditionally our enemies. But this pack that came to our territory during my great-grandfather's time was different. They didn't hunt the way others of their kind did – they weren't supposed to be dangerous to the tribe. So my great-grandfather made a truce with them. If they would promise to stay off our lands, we wouldn't expose them to the pale-faces." (6.118)
This Quileute legend of a peace treaty between werewolves and vampires has been passed down through the generations. Jacob believes it's just a scary story. He doesn't seem to have any clue that supernatural beings truly do exist in Forks.
Quote #5
[Jacob to Bella:] "No." He paused dramatically. "These are the same ones." (6.124)
Bella learns the Cullen family didn't descend from the vampires that formed a treaty with the Quileutes generations ago – supposedly they are the same vampires. Jacob clearly thinks this is just a scary, superstitious story, but Bella is taking it a bit more seriously.
