Perfect Chapter 3 Summary

Sean

  • Sean's on a mission to get a buff body through lifting weights.
  • He's a first baseman, and he's going to be the best one ever. His dad, who's now dead, was a baseball freak and football coach.
  • His dad told him when he was a kid that Mark McGwire was the best first baseman ever, so Sean's trying to get McGwire's arms.
  • He also plays football, but he's better at baseball—he's even trying to get a baseball scholarship to Stanford, because that's where his girlfriend Cara is going.
  • He's sure he can get in, because not only is he an awesome baseball player, Cara's parents are alumni, and her dad's rich and connected.
  • Another person with connections: Sean's uncle, Jeff.
  • There are going to be Stanford scouts at one of Sean's games this season, so he has to be awesome every time.
  • He's spending his snow day working out in the weight room at Uncle Jeff's house, which is where Sean and his brother Wade have lived since their parents died.
  • Bobby Duvall shows up to work out with him.
  • As they lift, Bobby asks Sean to hook him up with some steroids, which Sean's not taking… yet.
  • Sean's annoyed. He tells Bobby that they're going to get drug-tested soon, and he's not going down for being a supplier.
  • Bobby asks Sean to get the steroids for him after the test.
  • Sean gets angry and shows Bobby the door. When Bobby leaves, Sean checks his messages and sees that he has one from Cara, which improves his mood.
