Perfect Chapter 12 Summary

Andre

  • Andre tells us about Zephyr Academy. It will prepare you for an Ivy League school, but there's not much of a social scene.
  • He's had sex with a few of the girls there, but Jenna is in a whole different league.
  • It's the night of their third date, and he's picking her up at 4:30PM so they can get into a nice restaurant for dinner.
  • On his way out the door, he says goodbye to his dad, who's in his office doing research.
  • His dad asks if he's going out, and Andre says he has a date. Dad wants to know about her, so Andre says she goes to Galena High and she's blonde.
  • Upon finding out Jenna is white, Andre's dad tells him he should date black girls and asks if he's ashamed of his race.
  • This is ironic, given that Andre's mom is light-skinned and alters the faces of black women to make them look more like white women. Still, he feels a little racist for preferring white girls.
  • But hey, who's got time to ponder race when they've got a date with a hot girl like Jenna? Andre picks her up and they head to Red Lobster, which is apparently their idea of a nice restaurant.
  • Jenna's wearing a tight sweater and too-short skirt, and people are looking at her.
  • She talks about Kendra's beauty pageants and her parents' divorce; she tells him her dad's a loser. Then she tries to order wine.
  • The waiter says no.
  • Andre asks Jenna if she drinks at home, and she says she does—her mom and Patrick always have an open bottle around.
  • After dinner, he asks her if she's ever kissed a black guy, to which she says she hadn't noticed he was black.
  • She kisses him, and it's hot.
