Voting Rights Act: Section 6 Summary

Calling in the Examiner Squad

  • When the court authorizes sending in the hounds (or examiners, to be precise), it's because the Attorney General has either gotten at least twenty complaints from voters who claim to have been restricted from voting based on the color of their skin, or the ratio of white to non-white voters is way off compared to the ratio of white to non-white citizens of the state.
  • If the AG gives his thumbs-up, the Civil Service Commission can send in as many examiners as they see fit, and those examiners are hired and compensated separately to Civil Service Commission policies.
