- Out in the streets of Rome, the crowd is cheering as Maximus is led out.
- Cicero is standing near the front of the crowd. He's shouting, "General, general, general."
- Maximus notices him, but can't walk over to him. Cicero follows along the sides. Maximus asks him where they're camped.
- Ostia, he's told. Maximus goes closer, and tells Cicero to tell the men that the "general lives." Then he says "find me, find me."
- While walking away, he looks at his hand. Cicero has given him a small bag.
