- Mr. Frank wants to give Anne a Bible to continue her education. It’s rather awkward when everybody realizes he meant to give it to her on Hanukkah; then he says, er, well, St. Nicholas Day might be a better day to give that gift.
- The group is beginning to be careless, according to Anne. They’re lighting a fire during hours when neighbors can see the smoke and opening the curtains occasionally. Everyone fights about these occurrences.
