- Mr. Dussel becomes Anne’s roommate. This guy, as Anne puts it, is "slow to catch on" to the rules.
- Mr. Dussel describes what has been going on in the "outside" world and everybody is shocked to discover which friends have disappeared.
- Anne reflects on how guilty she feels because she is warm and protected when so many people she knows are being rounded up by the Germans.
