Common Core Standards
Grade 5
Writing W.5.5
With guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach. (Editing for conventions should demonstrate command of Language standards 1-3 up to and including grade 5 here.)
With this standard, students will be challenged to edit an existing piece of writing through self and peer reviews. This can take the form of simple edits, significant rewrites, or a from-the-ground-up radical revision, but the important part is that students learn how to critically analyze their own work and subsequently adjust it, as well as integrate the criticism of others in a meaningful way.
