Common Core Standards
Grade 5
Writing W.5.4
Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. (Grade-specific expectations for writing types are defined in standards 1-3 above.)
This standard is a big mish-mosh of all the writing standards we've dealt with thus far. Here, your students will be employing the range of skills covered in Common Core Standards W.5.1-W.5.3, which includes the use of strong evidence to back up an argument, the correct employment of transitional clauses, and a strong grasp of basic organizational structure. This is where the rubber meets the road, so to speak, and when your students must bring together all the skills they've learned to create a piece of writing.
