By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poetry, at the high end of the grades 4-5 text complexity band independently and proficiently.
Will the student not fail at language arts once he or she hits middle school? If the answer is a yes, and the student has done all of the other standards properly, then this standard will probably be satisfied without much extra effort.
