00:14

So you've prepared an excellent lesson plan.

00:16

Great.

00:17

Well done.

00:18

Time to take a nap, right? [Boy taking a nap at his computer desk woken by a loud instrument]

00:19

Nope.

00:20

Not even close.

00:21

Sleep is for the weak.

00:22

You'll never sleep again.

00:23

…What?

00:24

Sometimes we like being overly dramatic.

00:27

Anyway, you still need to present your lesson to the rest of your class. [Woman walking up on stage]

00:31

And if you have stage fright, that might seem a lot harder than sitting alone in your room

00:34

with a bunch of books. [Girl sitting on a bed surrounded by books]

00:35

But don't worry.

00:37

If you follow these tips, you're much more likely to receive your classmates' applause…

00:40

…rather than their rotten vegetables. [Class mates throwing vegetables at student giving a presentation]

00:42

Though we're not sure why they brought so many rotten vegetables to school in the first

00:45

place…

00:46

First, be sure to speak slowly and clearly.

00:48

It's important that your classmates understand you, so keep things clear, and don't rush [Girl power walking down a street].

00:53

Remember, it's not a race.

00:54

And even if it were, you'd need to run, not just talk super fast.

00:58

Second, make eye contact with your audience.

01:01

Not only will this keep you from staring down at your notes the whole time, which is a big [Boy staring down at his notes while giving a presentation]

01:05

presentation no-no…

01:06

…it'll also help to keep your audience's eyes on you, instead of that video of a cat

01:10

falling off of a couch that's on their phone. [Classmates watching a video of a cat falling off a couch on a smartphone]

01:12

Though to be fair, that is a hilarious video…

01:16

Third, make your voice sound exciting and interesting.

01:17

Studies have found boring monotone voices to be very boring and [Classmates falling asleep at the sound of a monotone voice]

01:22

the worst and the most boring and the worst and…what?

01:25

You get the picture.

01:26

It's boring, so don't be afraid to spice things up a bit.

01:29

But don't use all sorts of crazy voices, like an actor in a radio play. [Boy sticking his tongue out while giving a presentation]

01:33

Well…unless your lesson's about radio plays, in which case, go nuts.

01:37

Fourth, use gestures and facial expressions to keep your presentation interesting.

01:40

Again, you don't have to go full mime, but gestures and facial expressions are great [Boy waving his arms at the front of the class]

01:45

tools for emphasis, and keeping your audience's attention.

01:48

That said, you've gotta admit that those mimes sure can capture people's attention. [Mime on stage performing for a crowd of people]

01:53

Finally, be sure to pause to let your audience respond.

01:56

Sure, you know the material front to back, but your audience might not, so it's good

02:00

if they have opportunities to check whether they understand everything you're saying. [Audience members raising their hand to ask a question]

02:04

And last but not least, you don't need to answer questions about why the cat kept falling

02:08

off of the couch.

02:09

That's the cat's problem. [Cat perched on the top of a couch]

02:11

Get your life together, cat.
