How It All Goes Down

  • It's nighttime across Oz and we get a series of things happening as the Witch dies.
  • In Quadling Country, a Crocodile kills a baby and is then killed in turn.
  • In Gillikin, Grommetik is leading the machines in a Marxist-sounding revolt.
  • Glinda is up that night; she doesn't know why she can't sleep.
  • Frex is asleep and dreaming of Melena and Turtle Heart.
  • Shell comes in to check on his dad.
  • The Wizard is waiting for the end; he knows Dorothy is the sign that his time in Oz is over and he's preparing to head back to his own world:

    A suicide was waiting for him back in his own world. (5.18.7)

  • Afterward, the death of the Wicked Witch of the West was widely celebrated.
  • Dorothy brought the Miracle Elixir bottle to the Wizard and he freaked out and disappeared from Oz.
  • There are conflicting reports about what happened to Dorothy.
  • Liir disappeared for years to hunt for his sister Nor.
  • Nessa's shoes also disappeared, but they spawned a huge fashion craze in Oz, with all the ladies wearing sparkly shoes.
  • And Elphaba?:

    She was dead, dead and gone, and all that was left of her was the carapace of her reputation for malice. (5.18.15)

  • We're so bummed out that we're going to go listen to the musical soundtrack to cheer ourselves up.
