- Abe has bee in the Ritz bar since 9am. His favorite bartender, "the famous Paul" had come in and was listening to Abe’s story. Around 11am he calls Dick (see Book One, Chapter Twenty-Two).
- He considers going get Freeman out of the clink, but he’s too confused to take action.
- Around 4pm, the attendant asks him if he wants to see a black man named Jules Peterson, whose been looking for Abe in all the bars. Abe asks if Jules can come into the bar – but black people aren’t allowed in. So Abe goes out to see him.
