Character Analysis

Rebecca is the Price family's incompetent house maid. She's never around when she's needed, she never does what she's supposed to, and when she does do something it is done very slowly. Mrs. Price spends most of her time complaining about Rebecca, and Rebecca seems to spend her time ignoring/avoiding Mrs. Price. Rebecca symbolizes the chaotic and ill-managed state of the Price household, as well as the impoverished conditions in which they live. It's clear that Mrs. Price can't afford a great maid and that Rebecca probably isn't getting paid enough to care about doing a good job.
