Treaty of Ghent: Section 10: Ninth Article Summary

A Passage for Indians

  • The United States has to make peace with Native American groups they fought against during the War of 1812. The Native Americans get back everything that they had in 1811, before the war.
  • Native Americans also have to "desist from all hostilities against the United States of America" (IX.2).
  • The same goes for the Brits: cease and desist all fighting with Native tribes, and give them back whatever was taken from them.
