Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Chapter 9: An A-Z of Fantastic Beasts - A Summary

How It All Goes Down

Acromantula

  • These bad dudes are huge fifteen-foot, eight-eyed spiders that can talk.
  • They also have near-human intelligence, lay a hundred eggs at a time, and are super-dangerous to any human. Mostly because they will straight up eat you. Yikes.
  • Yes, we will now have nightmares for a week.
  • (Harry Potter book shout out: You first met these guys in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when they almost eat Ron and Harry in the Forbidden Forest)

Ashwinder

  • Whenever a magical fire burns too long, you can get an Ashwinder. Basically, it's just a snake that rises from the ashes and slithers away to lay eggs.
  • The Ashwinder doesn't live long, but its eggs will catch your house on fire if you're not careful. You can also freeze them to make Love Potions. Ooh: bonus.

Augurey

  • The Augurey is a thin and sad looking bird that seems to cry all the time.
  • Wizards used to think that the Augury could predict death, but it turned out it that it was just wailing every time it was going to rain.
  • Some wizards thought that it might make a good weather bird, but since it would spend all winter moaning, it became pretty tough to take.
  • (Harry Potter book shout out: In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Delphi has a tattoo of an Augurey.)
