Dark Places Chapter 28 Summary

How It All Goes Down

Ben Day—January 2, 1985 10:23 p.m.

  • Trey drives Diondra and Ben out to a cow field. They park and do something Trey calls "Devil rush" (27.9)—it's a packet of powder they snort.
  • The powder is "like battery acid for your brain" (27.17), and it prepares Ben for what they're about to do—murder a bull.
  • Diondra stabs a bull in the neck with a knife, then tells Ben to finish it off.
  • Ben takes an axe and chops the bull to pieces, getting angrier with each swing.
  • "Now he knew how the violence felt, and he wanted more" (27.66). Us? We'll never look at a hamburger the same way.
