Reading: Informational Text—Grade 2
These ten Reading Informational Text standards are pretty similar to the Reading Literature standards, except we're talking about nonfiction here, not fiction. Makes sense, right?
The second grade standards take it up a notch from the first grade ones, asking students to not only identify main ideas of texts, but also main ideas of specific paragraphs. As students are tackling history, science, and technical texts, they should be able to determine the meanings of more words and phrases on their own and describe how reasons are supporting an author's ideas.
