Like W.5.9.A, this standard challenges students to build upon the reading and analytic skills developed in previous years to account for a greater complexity in subject matter. While students should already have experience analyzing an author's use of evidence and logical reasoning based on fourth grade standards, this is the first time they will be asked to identify and connect these various pieces of evidence in a meaningful way.
