Writing W.4.3.E
Provide a conclusion that follows from the narrated experiences or events.
Even creative work needs some sort of conclusion. Why else write a story if nothing ever happens? And if something's happened, we need some sort of resolution: the lost dog is found, the kid is reunited with her father, the grandmother dies but the family accepts the loss, etc. Happy endings aren't mandatory…but, uh, we're fans of 'em.
Making sure that students "wrap it up" means allowing them to create a satisfying experience for the reader. (Whether it's a happy ending or not.)
