Common Core Standards

Grade 2

Reading RL.2.6

Acknowledge differences in the points of view of characters, including by speaking in a different voice for each character when reading dialogue aloud.

Stories will start to have more and more characters, each with their own points of view and characteristics, so this standard is about getting students to recognize this fact. However, the differences between characters noticed by second graders do not need to be detailed—right now, it may only be the differences in how they talk.
