Common Core Standards
Grade 1
Reading RL.1.9
Compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in stories.
This Common Core standard is virtually the same as its kindergarten counterpart, except this standard states that students should receive less support when comparing and contrasting the plot of stories. That translates to fewer leading questions; for example, while students might be asked "Emma went up to the top of the mountain. What did Alex do?" in kindergarten, first graders might be asked "What's different about what happened to Emma and Alex?"
