"Emergent-reader" is just a phrase used when describing the developmental stages of reading. Emergent-reader texts are basic texts for newbies, so while they're working on reading fundamentals, your kindergartners can also focus on the text's message. We're sure they're excited for the Joyce unit, but everyone's gotta start somewhere.
