Power

Very few writers have any sort of power. J.K. Rowling can pretty much get away with whatever she wants, and Stephen King could defecate on a ream of paper and get it produced. But for most folks, no. The only thing you'll have true power over is whether or not you kill off the main character in your novel.

If you're a talented writer, however, you'll have the power to grab hold of your reader from the first sentence and not let them go until the final word. And you can't even get arrested for assault.
