Fame

You don't necessarily have to be the greatest or the best to stand tall in the hall of fame. If you:

  • help one kid not flunk out of school

  • do everything you can to find funds so that a financially strapped student can finish her last quarter and graduate

  • manage to push through that program that transforms culinary fare in dorms forevermore...

then you're famous...in someone's eyes.

That being said, don't expect to win accolades and international fame as Dean of Students—no matter how big or respected the institution. You'll be well-known throughout the campus and maybe even regionally or nationally among the small group of other Deans of Students, but you'll never see your name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
