Odds of Hanging On
Because the industry is a must-have for those dying old buildings getting replaced, your odds of having a career are pretty good. (But in bad times, you probably should know how to drive a UPS truck. Architecture isn't a very portable skill.)
Like almost any other profession, prove yourself and continually turn out quality work and your chances will improve. If certain clients like your work, you may get a lot of repeat business. They may even like you so much that they're willing to overlook your insistence on bathroom-chimneys.
