Don't mess with us because bill one appia we always
- 00:25
liked a challenge So this year was one of those
- 00:28
times france did we rob the eiffel tower L tried
- 00:32
to be upset and it was very impressive People like
- 00:33
well this is you americans were like whoa hey that's
- 00:37
cool that's nice and all But we got something even
- 00:39
better So the organizers of this expedition challenge designers to
- 00:44
say hey come on let's get something better let's So
- 00:47
show other people what chicago does best They hired a
- 00:50
guy that came out of the woodwork designer by the
- 00:53
name of g w ferris which the g w stood
- 00:57
for george washington ensure that kind of helped his bidding
- 01:00
process in this whole thing may hope he didn't have
- 01:03
to compete with abraham lincoln johnson or something Yeah they
- 01:06
hired this guy It was like all right i'll build
- 01:08
you something here and he came up with the design
- 01:11
It basically was a giant wheel that suspended little gondola's
- 01:15
on it that would move So ferris and then there
- 01:17
was a wheel I think you know where i'm going
- 01:20
with this Yes he invented the ferris wheel and it
- 01:23
was huge And people were odd by like wow this
- 01:26
is cool It could hold over two thousand people and
- 01:30
they could see it was so big and they could
- 01:32
they could actually go all way to the top and
- 01:33
see whole exposition from where they were And that was
- 01:35
his goal And it'd really well because it was fifty
- 01:38
cents per ride which in today's conversion is fourteen dollars
- 01:41
a ride But people were into it and they bought
- 01:43
in so much so that they actually made so much
- 01:46
money to keep the fire going And it they kept
- 01:49
the paid pretty much for the exposition The romantic idea
- 01:53
of getting married was kind of an idea that lot
- 01:55
of people had so people would get married in these
- 01:58
gondola's right there like cool Well here's it's Even more
- 02:01
scary Actually i thought what is that That in each
- 02:03
One of the gondolas they actually had attendance there each
- 02:07
one automatic attended placed inside in order to kind of
- 02:11
prevent people from getting scared and reassure them that everything
- 02:14
was okay And i don't know about you But if
- 02:16
i wanted a new ride and there was a guy
- 02:18
sitting next to me to make sure i wasn't scared
- 02:20
i might be kind of scared Was this the biggest
- 02:22
thing to come out of chicago I think it's fair 00:02:27.555 --> [endTime] to say so
