Character Analysis
Mrs. Scheerer is Irene's mother. She is also a vision of what Irene will be like in twenty years: kind, welcoming, and generous, unlike Judy's aloof father, Mr. Mortimer Jones. The Scheerer family are decent, approachable people who have befriended Dexter. Unfortunately, they also don't quite fit in Dexter's fantasies of the rich life. No wonder he eventually ditches poor Irene for Judy.
