The Scorch Trials Chapter 20 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • Teresa.
  • Of course, that's what Thomas thinks.
  • Newt also thinks it might be Teresa, so that's a plus.
  • Minho concludes that everyone should approach the girl, but Thomas pretty much demands he go alone so that they all don't fall into a trap.
  • Okay, Mister Tough Guy.
  • Thomas takes off, and as he approaches the girl, he can tell she is, in fact, Teresa.
  • Teresa retreats into the house, which is dark and has no windows.
  • Naturally, Thomas follows—because really, what could possibly go wrong?
  • Inside, a light turns on, and Thomas sees Teresa. Her face is covered in tears, and she has brand-new clothes. She's clean—which is odd, because you'd think she'd be dirty.
  • Thomas reaches for Teresa, but she starts back and yells at him to get away from her.
  • Oof, trouble in paradise.
  • Teresa's shaking violently, kind of like how Gally shook right before everyone escaped the Glade.
  • But then Teresa does the unthinkable: she grabs Thomas, and they start kissing.
  • Come on, folks—it was bound to happen eventually.
  • So Thomas and Teresa kiss, but then she starts back again and tells him to run. She tells him that they all need to run away.
  • Thomas is pained by this, but he follows Teresa's orders. Something's definitely fishy, so it seems best to do what she says.
