How It All Goes Down
- Rat Man continues: sun flares have ravaged the earth and there's a disease called the Flare that's killing people.
- By the way, all of the kids have caught the Flare.
- Uh, what?
- But don't worry— if they complete the Trials, then the kids will get a cure for the Flare.
- So, Phase Two is called The Scorch Trials.
- These trials begin at 6:00AM, and the boys need to enter something called a Flat Trans at that time.
- This Flat Trans closes 5 minutes later. If the boys don't enter, they'll be executed. So it's probably a good idea to enter the thing.
- Rat Man then gives the kids their instructions. Ready?
- There aren't any rules or guidelines. There are few supplies and nothing to help along the way.
- Bascially, all they get is this: Go through the Flat Trans when it opens.
- Find open air.
- Go one hundred miles north to the safe haven.
- Make it, or die.
- Huh, this all seems simple.
- Then the invisible wall fogs up, and the man disappears into thin air, along with his desk and chair. It's like magic.
