- However, the offer turns out to be fake. Dr. Chilton makes his own offer. Unbeknownst to Chilton, Lecter steals his pen.
- Lecter is moved to Memphis. He taunts Sen. Ruth Martin and gives a fake name for Buffalo Bill, "Louis Friend."
- Clarice deciphers Lecter's anagram and tells him the rest of her life story. He gives her another cryptic clue.
- That afternoon, Lecter uses Chilton's pen to pick his handcuffs, kills some guards, and escape!
- Later, he calls Clarice and congratulates her for graduating the FBI Academy. He's tracking Dr. Chilton and plans on having him "for dinner."
