Selene (Luna) Gossip

Selene (Luna) Gossip

Ever heard the word "lunar"? It means "of or pertaining to the moon" and comes from Luna, the Roman version of Selene. Stellar, right?

If a person is "loony" that means they're crazy. This fun word comes from Luna, too, because back in the day people thought too much moonlight could make a person lose their minds.

In the world of Marvel Comics, Selene (a.k.a. the Black Queen) is a supervillain who constantly plagues the X-Men with her power absorbing abilities. (The real Selene sued Marvel for naming a bad guy after her, but it didn't go anywhere.)

In the classic and wonderfully weird silent film A Trip to the Moon, the natives of the moon are called Selenites.
