Schindler's List Scene 17 Summary

  • Oskar's in his car. He notices Jewish prisoners pulling down tombstones in a Jewish cemetery.
  • As the camera pulls back, we see that the road is paved with these tombstones.
  • Schindler arrives at Goeth's place, where he's having a lavish dinner party.
  • The men discuss politics, and Oskar's clearly bothered by the conversation. He makes some passive-aggressive comment about the tailor who made his suit, and begins to reveal the purpose of his visit.
  • Oskar's upset that his workers are gone. He demands the return of "his" Jews from Goeth's camp.
  • Goeth has heard tales of Oskar's generosity, and he's eager to make a good friend, so he suggests to Oskar how he might be able to get Jews for his factory.
  • Oskar makes a deal where his Jews will come back to work at his factory, this time under heavy Nazi guard.
  • Goeth hasn't returned all the Jewish workers: he's kept Itzak Stern to keep track of Schindler's end of the business arrangement.
