Louise la Valliere

Character Analysis

So what is the deal with Madame de la Valliere? It seems as though everyone is in love with her. She's clearly a sweet girl with little taste for political maneuvering who fell in love with the King. But what else is it about her that attracts all of these men? We'll let you tackle this question.

The other question she has us wondering is this: why does everyone give her such a hard time? It doesn't seem like she really merits the treatment she receives, especially from D'Artagnan. We're not quite sure what she was supposed to have done with respect to Raoul. To us, she cuts the most tragic figure in the novel, and out of those living at the end of the story, she suffers the most.
