Character Analysis
Aside from D'Artagnan, King Louis is the only other character in the novel to undergo a significant change of character. He is petulant and childish at the beginning of the novel, thinking only of his own pleasures. By the novel's end, he has asserted truly absolute power within his kingdom and no one is going to take it away from him. This takes quite a lot of arrogance and sheer strength of will.
