Character Analysis
Madame Homais is barely even a character. She’s another young-ish housewife (she’s in her thirties), but she couldn’t be any more different from Emma. She’s totally devoted to her husband’s mission of getting ahead in life, and she doesn’t really seem to have any other ambitions. She doesn’t really care about her appearance or about how the outside world perceives her; she mostly stays at home and haphazardly takes care of the brood of unfortunately-named Homais kids. We don’t really know anything about Madame Homais beyond her actions – she has no internal life, as far as we’re concerned.
