Shakespeare can be a tough sell, we know. The language is often an obstacle for students, which is why it's important to check their understanding throughout the reading process—especially at the beginning. Thankfully, many students will find Macbeth's beginning compelling. Why? One word: witches. 

"Double, double toil and trouble;/Fire burn, and cauldron bubble." So goes the Weird Sisters' famous chant in Macbeth. Students are always enthralled with the supernatural elements in Shakespeare's "Scottish play."
