Guide Mentor
Character Role Analysis
The Courtly Ladies
We could consider the women as guides to the men. At first they are unwitting guides, their beauty inspiring the men not only to improve their sonnet-writing skills but also to expand their ideas about the world. At the end of the play, however, the Princess and her troop of maidens become guides directly, each woman sending her man on a quest that will hopefully, in a year, make him worthy of her.
