Holofernes

Character Analysis

Holofernes, the schoolteacher, may have been an afterthought in the writing of the play. Along with Nathaniel, he doesn't exist until the fourth act. With his verbal spouting, a soup made of Latin, synonyms and digressions, he should be a lesson to the young scholars: too much book-learning and you'll turn out like this guy.
