Character Role Analysis

The Central Love Triangle

Love in the Time of Cholera is almost exclusively the story of Fermina Daza and the two men who love her, Florentino Ariza and Dr. Juvenal Urbino de la Calle. While some might prefer one character over the other two, we'd argue that all three are the protagonists of the novel. Take note of the way each character makes his or her first appearance – Fermina is inserted into a story about Dr. Urbino, and Florentino is inserted into Fermina's story. The three are so intertwined that it's impossible to regard them separately.
