Joseph Andrews Book 1, Chapter 3 Summary

  • Parson Adams figures out that Joseph isn't totally dumb. His illustrious father, Mr. Andrews, taught him how to read and work hard at everything in life.
  • Mrs. Slipslop, Lady Booby's gentlewoman-in-waiting, often argues with the good parson about theology. She uses big words to make herself sound smart.
  • Even though Joseph gets whisked away from the country and off to London to be Lady Booby's footman, he's super grateful that Parson Adams has been so kind to him.
