How we cite our quotes: (Chapter:Verse)
Quote #7
"Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, so that they also may be sanctified in truth." (NRSV 17:17-19)
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. (KJV 17:17-19)
Even though the disciples will have the Holy Spirit to help them with the truth, Jesus still wants God to watch out for them and make sure they're doing the right thing.
Quote #8
Pilate asked him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." Pilate asked him, "What is truth?" (NRSV 18:37-38)
Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? (KJV 18:37-38)
Here's another classic Gospel of John moment for you. Pilate hears Jesus's whole spiel on the truth and then… he totally brushes it off. Or maybe he really wants to know the answer and thinks Jesus might hold the key?
Quote #9
This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true. (NRSV 21:24)
This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true. (KJV 21:24)
And by the way, this whole story is true. They have a witness to prove it.
