Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Scene 12 Summary

  • Indy finds a chamber where men are chanting around a pool of flaming lava.
  • It's a Thuggee ceremony. They're worshipping Kali.
  • As far as gods go, Kali is either evil, or her statue is really unflattering. She has a serious case of resting evil-goddess face.
  • The Maharaja watches the ceremony, as a man in a skull hood locks another man into a cage.
  • Skull man chants to Kali, and puts his hand on the man's chest.
  • He reaches in and pulls out the man's still beating heart.
  • Oh, but the man is fine. His chest closes up. Who needs a heart anyway?
  • The man isn't fine for long, though.
  • He is lowered screaming into the lava and burned alive.
  • The cage, which must be made of space-age titanium to withstand that heat, is reeled in, empty.
